A New Perspective: Through Endangered Eyes Giveaway

One thing we don’t often talk about on this site is the correlation between climate change and endangered species, and specifically, what we can do to help ensure the myriad species who also currently call this planet “home” remain here for generations to come.

What better way to teach future generations that all creatures great and small are worthy of protection and worthy of life than a beautifully illustrated poetry book on endangered animals?

Through Endangered Eyes is exactly that: an informative and beautifully illustrated poetry book on endangered animals for children.

Through Endangered Eyes: A Poetic Journey into the Wild (Hardcover)

By Rachel Dillon (author and illustrator)

There are 1208 species on the Threatened and Endangered Species List compiled by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. How many can you name?

Take a journey across land and sea to meet twenty-one endangered and threatened animals, from the mighty polar bear to the tiny Corroboree frog, the massive humpback whale to the mysterious snow leopard. Through beautiful paintings and intimate poems, you will learn about the lives of these amazing animals and why they are in danger. Pole to pole and across all continents, this book includes species from the green sea turtle to the giant panda, the Chinese alligator to the Mexican spotted owl. If the stunning art and poignant poetry move you to learn more about these intriguing species, there are activities and organizations listed to help you in your search.

Windward Publishing, An Imprint of Finney Company (February 2009)

Through Endangered Eyes is available through Amazon.com, B&N.com, or any independent or chain bookstore.

About the author:

Rachel Dillon was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Art, with an emphasis in Graphic Design. Outside of art, Dillon held a special interest in evolution and extinction and took several classes in paleontology, and geology. Her passion for animals grew as she learned more about endangered species.

Rachel’s illustrations are based on Australian Aboriginal acrylic dot painting, and prints of her original illustrations are available here.

You can learn more about Rachel by visiting her website, or her blog.

If you need any extra incentive to love this book, 5% of all sales and art profits are donated to the World Wildlife Fund and the Folsom Zoo Animal Sanctuary.

What is more, Rachel would like to offer one 5MinutesForGoingGreen reader a personally signed copy of Through Endangered Eyes.

I just met a cute Giant Panda, face to face, at the National Zoo. I recently saw a Bald Eagle flying so high, in Ohio, where they are rare. I have seen films about the communicating Orcas in the oceans..and my heart has been captured by the wonderful creatures who are man’s neighbors on this planet. This book is written to be shared and treasured, and I would love the opportunity to share it with students…with hope of saving our animals.
