Recycling Yarn For Green Knitting (And A Giveaway!)

As MacKenzie touched on in her February 5th article, knitting is a great and relatively green hobby. My mom has found a way to make it even more eco-friendly –- by using recycled yarn.

Recycled yarn can be purchased, but she takes more of a do-it-yourself approach, buying sweaters at thrift stores to unravel and reconfigure. Watching my mom and sister shop for sweaters to recycle is pretty funny. They barely look at the clothes, instead walking down the row and touching a sleeve of each sweater. If a garment feels soft enough to meet their standards, they’ll stop and examine it, looking at the color, the label (if it has one), and the seams.

Little Birds In Love

A note from the seller:

These cards were hand printed on recycled cream flecked card stock. I designed and carved the linoleum blocks myself. You will receive 3 cards with 3 100% post-consumer recycled tan envelopes! FSC certified! Yay! The cards measure 4.25″ x 5.5″ (10.8cm x 14cm).

Recycled Note Of The Week: Small Square Design

This week’s Recycled Note Of The Week comes from Small Square Design and features a prominent kitchen appliance.

Exhibit: The Toaster Recycled Letterpress Card:

The only time I ever received a toaster as a gift was after I registered for (an awesome) one for our wedding, but apparently, “the retro toaster is a unique way of saying congratulations to someone, anniversary, graduation, new job, new house…”

Who knew? (Maybe you did!)

The listing above is for one A2 size letterpressed card, which also comes with one kraft color envelope. Both the card and the envelope are recycled, and both come packaged in a biodegradable clear sleeve.
