A Little Inspiration Can Go a Long Way

I don’t know about you, but March is my least favorite month. In my part of the world, it’s not yet spring, but the lingering winter is no longer welcome; the crocuses try to unfold, just to be deadened by frost. Fog sets in, along with days of rain. Mud cakes boots. And all those best intentions I made back in January seem so very, very distant.

In short, by March, I could use a bit of a boost, so today, I’d like to share a few links with you all. The following are websites and blogs which inspire me to take those big (and small) steps toward a greener me. Toward a more eco-minded household. I hope they will inspire you when you need it as well.

The first is Remains of the Day. Remains of the Day is like freshly baked bread: wholesome and filling and homey and substantial. You can sink your teeth into it, and it leaves you both satisfied and hungry for more. Writer Andrea continually reminds me what a deliberately lived life looks like, and for that I’m grateful. Check out her recent post on her quest to get plastic out of her house: Getting the Plastic Out, Stage One.

Through Remains of the Day, I’ve discovered One Small Change. This site is full of little inspirations which add up big, like a bucket full of pebbles. In the comments, you can read about others’ small measures taken for a greener life. Many of their efforts hadn’t even occurred to me!

Many of you are probably already aware of Fake Plastic Fish, a tremendous resource about plastic waste and its impact on the environment. If you’re not, please visit. It’s well worth your time!

One of the first bloggers I ever read was Kelli of The Brown’s Go Green. She’s honest and funny and makes healthy and eco-living seem so enjoyable you just wanna try it yourself!

The last link on my list is actually a group of local links. They’re the URLs to my local Craigslist listings, my area’s Freecycle, my library, and my farmer’s market. I’m also on the email lists for several area produce stands and U-Pick farms, so they can alert me when my favorite apples and pears are ripe for the taking. These links are not only useful resources for me, but they remind me to consume locally and second-hand whenever possible.

What websites and blogs are invaluable to your environmental success? Please share!
